fencers find a home

Once upon a time three orphaned fencers,Tom Evangelisti, his wife Lynn
and Justin Jacobs looked far and wide for any space wide enough and long
enough to "clash blades" without breaking too many innocent objects.

They helped instruct new fencers at the local community college...fenced
dodging raindrops and bees in their backyard...by flood light in their
driveway...they even fenced in their basement until they poked a few too
many holes in the low ceiling. Anything to get some fencing time in.

They were soon joined by Tom and Lynn's son Aaron who caught the "bug"
after watching his dad and Justin fence tournaments throughout the state of
Michigan...It became apparent they needed to find a home!

The local YMCA offered them a home for a short time but time restraints
and new construction made difficult to get good quality strip time in and a
more permanent solution needed to be found.

Due the new construction at the Y it became necessary to find a new venue
to hold an upcoming tournament and Tom called on an old friend and ex
landlord who had an old warehouse turned office space in "Old Saginaw".  It
seemed he had a room on the second floor that would be large enough for the
event and with enough time and sweat could be made ready in time to host
the first "Warehouse Rumble'.

Looking for chairs and tables for the tournament Tom and Aaron found
themselves wondering through the empty spaces in the building when they
opened the door to the third floor...

...There in front of them amongst empty barrels and miscellaneous crates
and boxes was the most beautiful vision ... a Salle in the rough to be sure but
it just felt like home.

It was then that the Fencing Alliance of Saginaw was born and Saginaw's
vagabond fencers found a home.
